I have started a thread at He-Man World, described below. I will be monitoring discussion there, but I’d like to keep ThunderCats.org open as a fallback option.
“I wish to make a computer model of the Castle Grayskull prototype that was created by Mark Taylor. Though the original piece is presumed lost, there exist images of it from various angles, as well as video from commercials. I expect that the process would involve isolating and triangulating key points on the sculpt, but whether the software for such tasks even exists, I do not know. To that end, I would like to draw on the knowledge and connections of the fan base: please ask around, both personally and professionally, and post your findings here. Thank you.”
Nice to see this forum again! Some updates are in order, regarding my work: I’m spearheading the Battle Ram Prototype Project and the Castle Grayskull Prototype Project, both on Hackaday.io and Discord (for as long as it doesn’t require I.D.). Each project has three stages: free computer model, engineered design, and life-sized construction. Replication of the Battle Ram from photos of the prototype is being handled by digital artist Arya Behboudian, though international strife has delayed crowdfunding the R/C adaptation which was to cover his fee. Despite these challenges (including a media blackout by MotU fan sites), we’re continuing to forge ahead.
(By the way, I’m not on He-Man World any more – I can’t edit my old post to erase the link. For all their fierce reputation, they proved to be unable to tolerate speech without censorship, so I left. In an ironic twist, though, I stopped in again to announce my projects’ new home, but found that I’d been sort of reverse-plagiarized: my posts remained, but all trace of who wrote them and how to contact me had been erased!)
You’ve moved my longstanding MotU-related threads from ThunderCats.org to here, the very place that drove me out of the fandom for defending Mark Taylor, and which is now run by the man who censored my Battle Ram Prototype Project. Did you not think this through, or am I dealing with a cabal?
This is a different site altogether. It’s just got a similar URL to the old Org forums, it’s just a coincidence. All the threads in here are He–Man focused threads from thundercats.org
Thanks for the clarification. I now notice the lack of a hyphen. The shock hasn’t yet worn off, though – alarm has simply turned to confusion! How did you manage to “get away with” snatching up a virtual clone of such a tightly-controlled domain name?
I’ve had this domain for a long time, there was a smaller site here before that didn’t get much attention, as I’ve focused on building thundercats.org as the priority. But now I’ve felt motivated with the movie to give this site some more attention and love. And I wanted to give the forums a starting point so here we are.
