Mattel regularly teases us with new MOTU Origins characters and concepts thanks to artworks that are featured on the cardbacks and boxes of their products and releases.
Furthermore, artists such as Axel Gimenez and Leonardo Vega have their influence on the toyline as well - cf. the book “Kings Of The Snake Men” for more information.
All in all, this helps the line to grow and diversify.
So I wanted to ask : did you notice the following characters on the boxes and blisters, and on different MOTU websites, recently ? Art and illustrations, below…
The following sketch was developed for the Tauraton box… Axel Gimenez posted it on his Instagram page. In the upper right corner, we can see Draego-Man approaching, all wings deployed. In front of Tauraton, we can see the still unnamed Preternian Heroic Warrior with his horned helmet and talons, wielding an axe. AND RIGHT BEHIND TAURATON, A NEW, MYSTERY DRAGON CHARACTER !
On the Snake Lair’s box, if you look carefully, you’ll also notice this new character, that Axel Gimenez names “Streak”. I found the image in better definition on his Instagram page, but it’s the same image. Here it is :
By the way… Axel Gimenez commented on Instagram about “Vikor’s companion”. He calls her “Wilda” ! It’s a cool name, and I hope and pray that Mattel will keep it.
Laser Light Skeletor’s mini-comic and box art feature some interesting characters : Blade and Saurod - who are teased for the very first time - , but also King Tamusk (a Filmation character) and… the Skelcons !
Dragon Lord, his henchman (the mysterious evil Preternian warrior with a horned helmet) and their steed, some kind of 6-legged draconic mount (which looks A LOT like the Fight Zone monster, by the way) - From the Snake Lair’s box :
