MOTU Origins build-a-figure system

Whether you love or hate the “build-a-figure” system, Mattel has decided to implement it for the MOTU Origins line, with the first wave already confirmed for 2027 (see: MOTU Origins Shadow Beast Build-A-Figure Wave 1 Listings - Toy Habits ).

It began with a test within the “Turtles of Grayskull” crossover line, featuring a wave that allowed you to build “Metal-Boto.”

This will continue in 2027 with two mini-waves that will allow for the construction of the Shadow Beast (the first half has been confirmed, consisting of Battle Armor Man-At-Arms, Beast-Man, and He-Man).

Finally, a second “build-a-figure” wave is scheduled for 2027, allowing us to build the Masks of Power Demon Lizard figure.

Beyond these projects—which were already announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2026—I’d like to highlight the potential that “build-a-figure” sets could offer us, even if, let’s be honest, the system is far from perfect.

It could pave the way for new, massive figures that would otherwise be difficult to release through other means…
